IC Theatre Blogspot Interview

In the last week we introduced ourselves to the local press in the Iowa Cultural Corridor. Our good friends over at IC Theatre Blogspot we're gracious enough to interview the group and you can find a wealth of information about our group and our work from said article.

Rehearsal-Shorts-1

Our first show, Red Door Shorts, is now in rehearsals. More info to come but I just wanted to talk a bit about the rehearsal process so far.

Everyone involved with the project, aside from two actors, are members of the acting ensemble. All of which I've worked with before but everybody hasn't necessarily worked with everyone else. The reason we gathered this group was not only because of their talents (which are great and special to each person) but because they will all work together in a positive manner regardless of the circumstances. This is so important because of the fact that we're doing these original pieces, working with an all original script is time consuming because there can be a tendency to go over and over and over the same things until finally that magic moment will happen where something falls into place for the playwright. Having a group of actors positively working towards these goals with you and contributing to the final product is the best case scenario. True collaboration.

Rehearsals are going extremely well and I'm interested to see what the next couple weeks will bring to us!

Here we are!

Welcome to the Red Door Ensemble blog! Here you'll find messages from our artistic director, managing director, actors, technicians, playwrights, dramaturgs, everyone within our organization. We want you to get to know us and we want to get to know you! So if there is anything you'd like to chat, discuss, or simply vent feel free to do so here. What you'll receive from us are the different aspects of theatre, sharing with you what we enjoy most in the world: creating good theatre.

So, what is Red Door Ensemble? We are an ensemble of actors, directors, and writers in the Iowa Cultural Corridor dedicated to presenting only original work. You won't see the plays already produced at other theatres because everything we create is new. Whether it be an unproduced work, a collaborative experience, or an adaptation we will further the theatrical experience by providing pieces you have never seen before.

Why original work? The theatrical experience is a unique history of the world, a different viewpoint we can't receive from a text book. Theatre is our oral history, a history of behavior and producing work from our theatrical canon is a noble goal. The Red Door Ensemble is interested in creating the new canon, the new cycle of work that teaches the next generation and beyond what people were like today.

In the weeks, months, and hopefully years to come you'll hear directly from us what we're doing, what we're performing, how we're furthering the experience of theatre.
